Incidents At ExxonMobil’s Beaumont Refinery

ExxonMobil’s Beaumont, Texas refinery was built in 1903. It is one of the oldest refineries in the United States. There have been numerous explosions and accidents at the refinery. Many have resulted in personal injury negligence lawsuits.

On April 17, 2013, an explosion and fire at the ExxonMobil refinery in Beaumont, Texas injured at least 12 people.

The fire was precipitated by a hydrotreater heat exchanger. Numerous negligence personal injury lawsuits were filed.
ExxonMobil claimed that the fire resulted from ignition of hydrocarbons released from a heat exchanger connected to a catalytic desulphurization unit. ExxonMobil would later blame the actions of a cleaning subcontractor, Clean Harbors.
