Astroworld Tragedy: Do Live Nation and Travis Scott Have A History of Allowing Dangerous Conduct At Their Events?

The recent Astroworld tragedy on Friday, November 5, 2021 highlights the need for security, crowd control, and crowd flow analysis at concerts and other large public events.

This is not the first time injury or death has occurred at a large public event.  It is not the first time such incidents have led to claims for negligent security, crowd control, and crowd flow.

Travis Scott: Prior Arrest and Complaints

According to reports, Travis Scott was arrested in 2015 and later pleaded guilty for reckless conduct in Chicago for inciting violence at a Lollapalooza concert by encouraging fans to breach barricades.  He was arrested again in 2017 for inciting a riot in Arkansas at a concert.  According to reports, Travis Scott has encouraged fans to rush the stage.  Ultimately, in that case, a security guard, police officer and several other people allegedly suffered injuries.

According to Trent Clark, editor-in-chief, HipHopDX:

“Travis Scott’s whole aesthetic is about rebellion. … It’s not uncommon to see a lot of crowding and raging or complete wild behavior at a Travis Scott show.”

“SNEAKING THE WILD ONES IN”

In May 2021, in response to complaints that the Astroworld concert was quickly selling out, Travis Scott told fans that he would be “sneaking the wild ones in. !!!!!”

This tweet was deleted from Travis Scott’s account.

In this case, reports indicate this did not occur. Instead, reports indicate the Astroworld concert continued after staff had been alerted to the death of a concertgoer:
