Crosby Plant Fire at KMCO Chemical Plant

April 2, 2019

The KMCO Chemical Plant chemical plant caught fire on 16503 Ramsey Road in Crosby late in the morning on April 2, 2019. Several KMCO employees are hurt and one dead during the explosion. The Crosby chemical plant is the second to catch fire after ITC plant incident in Deer Park last month.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a tweet that at 11:10 a.m. today, SISD administrators have placed all campuses/facilities in “shelter-in-place” due to a chemical fire in Crosby.

Officials from the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office and the county’s Pollution Control Services Department were headed to the scene, according to a tweet from the Harris County Office of Emergency Management.

That office was continuing to monitor the ITC site at Deer Park, but is also “actively monitoring” the Crosby explosion, the tweet said.

Texas Commission on Environment Quality (TCEQ) is on the way to the KMCO Chemical Plant look into the explosion.
