Marathon Petroleum Company’s Galveston Bay refinery in Texas City, Texas was built in 1934. There have been numerous serious safety incidents and accidents at the refinery.

For example, on February 28, 2013, a fire broke out at the Marathon Petroleum refinery.

On March 15, 2005, a vent stack at the Marathon Petroleum refinery (which was then owned by BP) ignited, killing 15 workers and injuring hundreds of others. Numerous personal injury negligence lawsuits were filed. Many injured people and their families received substantial settlements.
