The Valero refinery in Texas City, Texas was built in 1908. There have been numerous serious safety incidents and accidents at the refinery.

For example, in December 2009, an explosion at the Valero refinery occurred when a work crew was attempting to restart a boiler that had tripped offline. One worker died and several others were injured as a result of the blast.

On December 3, 2011, an explosion at Valero’s Texas City refinery killed one worker and injured several others.

In 1998, a worker at Valero’s Texas City refinery died in an on-the-job accident.
